Site terms

1. Who you're dealing with

Here in the City is a marketplace for independent shops in Cardiff. When you buy something, your contract for those goods is with the shop, not with us. The shop is the seller, the shop owns the stock, and the shop is responsible for the goods being as described.

We provide the website, the listings, the checkout and the delivery arrangement, and we take a commission of 8% of the goods total from the shop. Your payment goes to the shop's own payment account; we never hold your money and we never hold theirs.

2. This version of the site

While the site is in preview, every shop, product, price and stock figure on it is invented for demonstration, the banner at the top says so, and nothing can be ordered. No order can be placed and no form submission is stored.

3. Prices

• All prices include VAT where it applies, and are in pounds sterling.
• Delivery, where you choose it, is charged on top and shown before you pay.
• A crossed-out "was" price is always a genuine price the shop charged for that item, and is always higher than the price you pay. We don't invent reference prices.
• If a price is obviously wrong — a £200 bike listed at £2 — the shop can decline the order and refund you in full.

4. Stock

Shops keep their own stock numbers up to date, but these are real shops with real counters: occasionally the last one is sold in person a minute before you order it. If that happens you'll be told quickly and refunded in full.

5. Reviews

Fake reviews are illegal under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, and we take them seriously.

• Only someone who actually bought the item may review it.
• A shop must never review itself, and nobody with a commercial interest in a shop — owner, staff, family, supplier — may review it.
• Nobody may be paid, discounted or rewarded in any way for leaving a review, positive or negative.
• We don't delete reviews for being negative. We remove reviews that break these rules, are abusive, or are about something other than the goods.
• Shops cannot pay for placement, a better rating, or to have a review taken down.

6. Using the site

Don't scrape it, don't try to break it, don't use it to sell anything illegal, and don't upload anything you don't have the right to. We may withdraw access if you do.

7. Liability

We don't exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law — including your statutory rights as a consumer.

Beyond that, we're responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We aren't responsible for the goods themselves — that's the shop — or for loss that wasn't foreseeable.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and the terms that apply to an order are the ones published when you place it.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, and if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your own courts too.
